PS4

Sony has announced today that their next generation game console will be available in India as soon as January 6th, 2014 for a hefty price of Rs. 39,900. The PlayStation Camera will be priced at Rs. 4,990.

Coming to the games, the first party games have been priced at Rs. 3,999 while the third party games will be priced anywhere between Rs. 2,499 and Rs. 4,499.

The PlayStation 4 was launched in the US on November 15th and they sold a whooping 2.1 Million units in just three weeks.

The PS 4 is powered by a 8 core x86-64 AMD Jaguar CPU. It also has a secondary processor for optimising the power consumption. It has a 8 GB GDDR5 RAM and 500GB hard drive. It has a Blu-Ray disk drive just like the previous generation. For connectivity, it comes with two USB 3.0 Ports, an Ethernet Port, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 and HDMI out.

At that steep price, there is little chance it can sell large numbers like it did in the US. There has been no word on the release of Xbox One in India yet.

This is expected though. New generation console launches are priced high to make up for all the costs the company put in developing it. Once it’s adopted by gamers, then it’ll come down, to reach the casual audience.
