What you get in India right now
We have been using Apple Intelligence on our India Apple IDs since the March 2025 rollout. With iOS 27, the headline addition is Siri AI (Beta) in English. Here is what works for us on a compatible iPhone in India, and how we turn it on.
Apple splits this into two layers:
- Apple Intelligence: Writing Tools, Genmoji, Image Playground, notification summaries, Visual Intelligence, and related app features, with on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute.
- Siri AI: an entirely new Siri, rolling out as a beta in English, with personal context, onscreen awareness, broader answers, and a dedicated Siri app.
On a supported iPhone set to English, we rewrite drafts with Writing Tools, clean up photos, drop Genmoji into family chats, and ask Siri AI for a booking email or weekend plan buried in Messages. Hindi is not on Apple’s Apple Intelligence language list yet, so keep language settings on supported English.
Who gets it
You need a compatible device on the 27 releases (iOS 27, iPadOS 27, or macOS 27 Golden Gate; watchOS 27 / visionOS 27 where relevant).
iPhone: iPhone 16 models or later, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPhone Air, plus newer Apple Intelligence-enabled models sold in India (including the iPhone 17 line and iPhone Duo).
Also: iPad mini (A17 Pro) and iPads with M1 or later; MacBook Neo (A18 Pro) and Macs with M1 or later; Apple Vision Pro; Apple Watch Series 9 or later, Ultra 2 or later, and SE 3 paired with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone.
Free up to about 8 GB on most eligible devices, or up to about 14 GB on select newer Pro / Air / higher-memory models, before you update.
How we enable it
1) Update and match languages
- Go to Settings > General > Software Update and install iOS 27 (or the matching 27 update on iPad / Mac).
- Under Settings > General > Language & Region, set the device language to English (required for Siri AI beta).
- Open Settings > Siri (or Apple Intelligence & Siri) and set Siri language to the same English option.
Apple requires device language and Siri language to match. After a Siri language change, wait for the download or Apple Intelligence can pause.
2) Confirm Apple Intelligence is on
- Open Settings.
- Tap Apple Intelligence & Siri (label can vary by version).
- Turn on Apple Intelligence, or tap Turn on Apple Intelligence.
Apple says the next generation of Apple Intelligence is available automatically on eligible devices after the 27.0 update in supported languages and regions. India is not listed in Apple’s China or EU exclusion notes for this release. Still verify the switch.
3) Turn on Siri AI (Beta)
Apple’s official iPhone steps:
- Open Settings.
- Tap Siri.
- If Siri is off, tap Turn on Siri, then Try Siri AI (Beta). If Siri is on, tap Try Siri AI (Beta).
- Follow the onscreen instructions.
4) Finish the model download
Keep the iPhone on Wi-Fi and power until Apple Intelligence models finish downloading. Missing features are often a pending download or a language mismatch, not a need for a VPN. Apple does not ask India users to VPN around a regional block for this feature set.
What we use every week
- Siri AI (English beta): find photos, mail, or messages with a plain question, then continue in the Siri app.
- Writing Tools / write with Siri: polish mail, shorten chats, or draft from one line.
- Photos: Clean Up, Extend, and Spatial Reframing on 27.
- Image Playground and Genmoji: stickers and visuals for group chats.
- Visual Intelligence / Camera Siri mode: point, ask, act.
- Focus and Mail: notification summaries, Reduce Interruptions, Priority Messages.
Server-side tools such as Siri AI and Image Playground can hit daily usage limits. Siri AI is not available for users under 13.
If it still does not appear
Compatible model, iOS 27, English device language matching Siri language, enough free storage, download complete, Apple Intelligence on, and Try Siri AI (Beta) finished. Give the download time before assuming a region problem.
That is the India setup we run today: Apple Intelligence for daily tools, Siri AI beta when we want the more conversational English assistant.
