Apple has moved the 14-inch MacBook Pro and the 24-inch iMac to its M6 chip. In India, the MacBook Pro starts at ₹2,39,900 and the iMac at ₹1,74,900, with pre-orders opening today (28 October) and sales from Friday, 6 November. Neither looks any different from the outside, so this is purely an upgrade to the chip, memory and connectivity.

The iMac gets the bigger jump because it goes straight from M4 to M6. The MacBook Pro moves up from M5, which makes it an easy skip for most people who bought last year. The same chip already powers the Mac mini M6, so all three of Apple’s entry desktops and pro laptops are now on one generation.

M6 MacBook Pro and iMac India price

ModelPrice in IndiaEducation priceUS price
14-inch MacBook Pro (M6, 16GB, 1TB)₹2,39,900₹2,27,900$1,999
iMac (M6, 10-core CPU and GPU, two ports)₹1,74,900₹1,68,900$1,499
iMac (M6, 12-core CPU and GPU, four ports)₹1,99,900₹1,87,900$1,699

For context, the M5 MacBook Pro launched in India in October 2025 at ₹1,69,900, but that price was for a 512GB model. Apple dropped the 512GB configuration in March, so the 14-inch MacBook Pro now starts at 1TB of storage. That is why the entry price looks so much higher than last year’s headline number.

Both Macs can be pre-ordered from 28 October in 35 countries, including India and the US. Deliveries and in-store availability start on 6 November.

14-inch MacBook Pro with M6: what changed

The M6 in the MacBook Pro has a 12-core CPU, up from 10 cores on M5. It is split into two new “super” cores, four performance cores and six efficiency cores. The GPU is also 12-core, with Neural Accelerators built into each core and third-generation ray tracing.

Apple claims up to 30% faster graphics and up to 25% faster AI performance than the M5 model. In its own app tests, Apple says the M6 model is about 1.3x faster in Blender, Xcode and local LLM prompt processing, and 1.2x faster in Affinity. These are Apple’s numbers, so treat them as a ceiling rather than what you will see in every app.

  • Memory: 16GB as standard, configurable up to 32GB. The 16GB model runs at 153GB/s of memory bandwidth, while the 24GB and 32GB options get 170GB/s.
  • Storage: 1TB, 2TB or 4TB.
  • Display: 14.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR, 1,000 nits sustained, 1,600 nits peak HDR, ProMotion up to 120Hz, optional nano-texture glass.
  • Battery: 72.4Wh, rated for up to 24 hours of video streaming and 16 hours of wireless web browsing.
  • Wireless: Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 through Apple’s N1 chip.
  • Ports: three Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI, SDXC card slot, MagSafe 3 and a headphone jack. It drives two external displays, and 4K screens now run at up to 165Hz instead of 144Hz.
  • Weight: 1.55kg, in space black or silver.

One thing to watch: the base model ships with a 70W adapter. Fast charging (50% in about 30 minutes) needs a 96W or higher adapter, which Apple sells for ₹8,900. If you top up between meetings or on trains, factor that in.

The M5 Pro and M5 Max versions of the 14-inch MacBook Pro are still listed by Apple, so this M6 model is the entry MacBook Pro, not a replacement for the higher-end chips.

iMac with M6: the bigger upgrade

The iMac comes in two versions. The cheaper one has a 10-core CPU (two super, three performance and five efficiency cores), a 10-core GPU and two Thunderbolt ports. The ₹1,99,900 model has a 12-core CPU, 12-core GPU and four Thunderbolt 4 ports.

Compared with the M4 iMac it replaces, Apple claims up to 2x faster graphics, up to 2x faster ray-traced gaming, about 1.5x faster in Excel and up to 5x faster on-device AI when processing prompts in LM Studio. The SSD is also up to twice as fast.

Everything else carries over: a 24-inch 4.5K Retina display (4480 x 2520, 500 nits), a 12MP Center Stage camera with Desk View, six speakers and seven colours: blue, green, pink, yellow, purple, orange and silver. Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 are new, and 2.5Gb Ethernet is available as a configuration option.

My only gripe is the 256GB base storage at this price. If you keep a big photo library or run local models, plan for at least 512GB or an external SSD from day one.

macOS 27 and Siri AI out of the box

Both Macs ship with macOS 27, which brings Siri AI into Spotlight, system menus and a keyboard shortcut for asking about what is on screen. If you are on an older Mac and want the same features, our guide to the macOS 27 Golden Gate update lists which machines qualify. For setup tips, see how to turn on Siri AI in India.

Apple is also pushing both machines as good for running AI models locally. Memory matters more than the chip for this, so consider the 24GB or 32GB options if local models are the goal. You can try it on any recent Mac by following our walkthrough on how to run AI models locally with Ollama.

Should you buy the M6 MacBook Pro or iMac?

  • On an M5 MacBook Pro: skip it. The gains are real but modest, and nothing about the design or display has changed.
  • On an M1 or M2 MacBook Pro: this is a sensible time to upgrade, especially for the battery life, Wi-Fi 7 and 165Hz external display support.
  • On an Intel or M1 iMac: the M6 iMac is a big step up. I would pick the 12-core model if you want two external displays or more than 24GB of memory later.
  • On a tight budget: neither of these is cheap. A Windows machine from our list of the best laptops under ₹60,000 will cover studies and office work for a fraction of the price.
