LeEco, which had a tremendous success with their launch this year is ready to enter the entertainment industry. Right now, there is a saturation in the hardware part of phones. The thing to look out for is the software and the value provided by that software. LeEco understands that and they are the largest content provider in China. LeEco explained that they intend to do something similar in India too at an event in Mumbai yesterday. LeEco announced a new membership and a phone.

LeEco Membership

LeEco Membership is an online platform connecting media and the hardware seamlessly. LeEco has not gone ahead to build their own take them a long time to do. Instead, they’ve partnered with multiple services to bring all of them together for a seamless experience.

Movies

To bring a wide range of movies, LeEco has partnered with Eros Now for that. You’ll be able to access 2000+ latest blockbusters including latest titles across 10 different languages.

Live TV

Live TV is an essential part of viewing experience and to bring that into phones, LeEco has partnered with YuppTV. YuppTV is India’s largest provider of Live TV with 100+ channels across 12 different languages.

Music

Music is another core part of entertainment and for that, LeEco has partnered with Hungama Music which has the largest library in India with 3.5Million+ songs across 25 different languages. Apart from that, LeEco will be streaming 50 live concerts across the world this year.

LeCloud

LeEco will be offering their own Cloud service later this year with 5TB of storage. You’ll be able to store files across multiple formats which will be accessible both on phone and on the web.

Other features

Apart from the content provided, LeEco Membership will have better after sale support and exclusive discounts in the Le Mall. Furthermore to ensure seamless experience, LeEco is establishing it’s own in-house Cloud and Content Delivery Network in 10 cities across India. This will ensure super fast streaming of content.

Pricing

The LeEco membership comes at a price, which is Rs. 490 per month or Rs. 4,900 when purchased for one year. At this price, it might be a very good deal depending on the content you consume.

New phone

Along with LeEco Membership, LeEco launched a new phone LeEco Le 1s Eco which is made for India. The phone is mostly the already existing 1s with a couple of hardware and software changes. On the hardware side, the processor speed has been reduced from 2.2Ghz to 1.85Ghz. Not sure why this has been done, but this might get better battery efficiency. Also, the chamfered edges have been given a matte finish. On the software side, it ships with eUI which has been optimised for LeEco Membership. Another upcoming update is that the phone will get support for multiple Indian regional languages via OTA.

LeEco Le 1s Eco will cost Rs. 11,899. But it will be sold at Rs. 10,000 for the first flash sale with 100,000 units and will remain exclusive for Flipkart. The biggest feature of the phone though, is that it will come included with 1 year of LeEco Membership which is worth Rs. 4,900.

LeEco definitely has done something significant here in the Indian market where a lot of importance is given to content. In fact, a lot of people just buy smartphones to consume media and LeEco is bridging the gap between hardware and content.
