Adobe Premiere is now officially available on Android in India, giving creators a legitimate alternative to CapCut. CapCut has been banned in India since 2020, so this is not a choice between two apps that Indian users can download from Google Play. Premiere is the one available through the official store.
The feature comparison still matters because CapCut shaped how many creators think about mobile editing. Indian users may know it from older installations, overseas use or tutorials online. This article compares the companies’ published features and does not recommend installing CapCut through unofficial APK sources.
What the Android app includes
According to Adobe’s Android launch announcement and Premiere mobile documentation, the free tier covers the editing essentials:
- Multi-track timeline for video, music, text and effects
- Frame-accurate trimming and layered editing
- Enhance Speech and Enhance Audio for dialogue and voiceovers
- Templates, transitions and effects, plus Adobe Stock creative assets
- Exports up to 4K without a watermark or ads
- No mandatory Adobe login for core editing, local saves and export
However, signing in is required for Adobe Stock music and Firefly generative tools. In addition, Adobe says generative features use Firefly credits, while core editing, local saves and export do not require an Adobe account.
A few familiar features are not ready yet. Adobe lists auto-generated captions, keyframes, cropping, beat detection and continued desktop handoff as coming later to Android.
Adobe Premiere on Android vs CapCut: the feature differences
In practice, Premiere starts with a traditional timeline and Adobe’s audio tools. CapCut puts more emphasis on quick templates, effects and social video workflows. For Indian readers, CapCut is a useful feature benchmark rather than an app that can be officially downloaded here.

What the CapCut ban means in India
As a result, CapCut’s ban changes the recommendation completely. It may remain familiar because of its popularity overseas, but it is not an official option for someone downloading an editor in India today. Unofficial APKs also introduce security, update and authenticity risks that are not worth ignoring.
By comparison, Premiere gives Indian creators a normal Play Store installation, regular updates and a clear support path. More importantly, that is its biggest practical advantage before we even compare timelines, templates or AI features.

Who should use Adobe Premiere on Android?
Premiere makes sense if you want a timeline-first editor, a clean free export path and an app that is officially distributed in India. It is also the more natural choice if you already use Adobe’s desktop tools or Stock library.
Even so, CapCut still provides a useful comparison for templates, stickers and social effects, but Indian users should not treat it as a normal download option. Premiere does not need to copy every CapCut feature to be useful. It needs to offer a capable editor that can be installed and updated without workarounds.
The bottom line for Indian creators
Ultimately, Premiere is not simply another app competing with CapCut on a feature checklist. It is an officially available Android editor with a multi-track timeline, audio cleanup and watermark-free exports up to 4K.
CapCut’s ban leaves a clear gap in India. Adobe now has a chance to fill it, provided the Android app improves quickly and delivers promised features such as automatic captions and keyframes.
