Google’s September Android Drop brings five changes to Find Hub, Gemini, Motion Assist and Messages. They are not all ready on every phone: some are still coming soon, and Motion Assist needs Android 17.
Find Hub can remember where you left an item
Google says you will be able to ask Gemini to remember where you put an everyday item, such as a passport or spare key. It can save the location in Find Hub, with an optional photo. This is for the moments when you forgot where you left something, not a replacement for a Bluetooth tracker. Google lists Android 16 and newer in countries where both Gemini and Find Hub are supported. The announcement describes the feature as coming soon.
Motion Assist adds a moving visual cue
Motion Assist puts a subtle bubble on screen that moves with the vehicle, helping reduce the mismatch between what you see and feel while using your phone in a car. Google says it requires Android 17. That means the feature will depend on your phone receiving Android 17, not just an update to the Google app. We explain the feature and how to check for it in our Motion Assist guide.
Gemini Guided Vision describes the camera view
Guided Vision uses Gemini Live to describe what the camera sees and give spoken prompts to reframe or centre an object. Google designed it with blind and low-vision communities. The announcement lists Android 9 and newer in Gemini-supported countries, but says the feature is coming soon. Our Gemini Guided Vision explainer covers the limits and what India users should know.
Google Keep is coming to Messages chats
Google Keep notes can be shared and edited from a Google Messages conversation. That could be handy for a shared grocery list or trip plan, since everyone can add to the same note without switching chats. Google said the rollout in Messages starts with this Android Drop.
Messages gets custom chat themes
You can give conversations their own colours and background images in Google Messages. Google says Chat themes are available now in the app. You can give each conversation its own background.
Which features were available at launch?
Chat themes were listed as available in Google Messages, and the Keep integration was beginning its rollout. Find Hub memories and Guided Vision were marked coming soon. Motion Assist needs Android 17. So if an option is missing, first check the Android version and app named for that feature; a Play Store app update alone will not add an Android 17 function.
