Short answer: no, not on Jio, Airtel or Vi today. iPhone Handoff needs your carrier to turn it on. iOS 27 alone is not enough. At launch Apple only named T-Mobile in the US and Telekom in Germany.
What iPhone Handoff actually is
iPhone Handoff (iOS 27) lets you keep one mobile number on two iPhones and switch which phone is “active” when you unlock it. It is aimed at people who carry two handsets, for example a regular iPhone plus an iPhone Duo.
It is not the older Continuity “Handoff” that moves a Safari tab or Mail draft between iPhone and Mac. Same word, different feature.
Why it will not work in India at launch
Apple’s own launch footnote is blunt: iPhone Handoff starts with T-Mobile (US) and Telekom Germany. No Indian operator is listed.
That matters because Handoff is not a pure software toggle. The carrier has to support a companion / twin-line eSIM style setup and number switching on their network. Jio, Airtel and Vi already sell Multi-SIM / family add-ons. A feature that parks the same number on two iPhones cuts into that business unless they price and productise it themselves, which is why a fast India rollout would be surprising.
As of now, there is no public confirmation from Jio, Airtel or Vi that Handoff is coming on a date.
What you need (when a carrier finally supports it)
When it does land, Apple’s bar looks like this:
- Two iPhones on iOS 27 or later
- Same Apple Account, with iMessage, FaceTime and Messages in iCloud
- Wi-Fi during setup
- A supported carrier plan (and possible carrier fees; T-Mobile has charged extra in the US, and Telekom tied it to MultiSIM-style pricing in Germany)
Until an Indian carrier is on Apple’s list, those settings will not magically unlock Handoff on a Jio or Airtel line.
What to do in India instead
