After a lot of teasing, Ather the company behind India’s first electric smart scooter made an official announcement of their first model, S340.

The scooter runs on a Lithium Ion Battery which can go to a top speed of 72kmph and a maximum distance of about 60km on a single charge. Also, the battery supports fast charging which charges 80% of the battery in 50 minutes and can be connected to any normal power socket.

The scooter is built around some amazing technology and design. It has a 7 inch touch screen dashboard which is the user interface for the scooter. Right now, it connects to your smartphone and supports navigation and user profiles. The vehicle is always connected to the Internet and software updates will be rolled out over the air on a regular basis to improve the scooter. The Electric Scooter also has other cool features like flipping a switch to make it go in the reverse direction. On the design part, it has been well thought of and has an unique design which gives it a futuristic feel with clean and neat edges.  It is hard to just see it and not own one!

The scooter will be manufactured in Bangalore. Also, experience centres will be opened in Bangalore, Chennai and Pune soon where people can check out the scooter and take it for a spin. The scooter will be sold exclusively online for which the pre booking will open soon.

When asked about the price, we were told that it would come with a premium price tag. It is mainly aimed an tech enthusiasts and eager early adopters. We are looking forward to get our hands on one soon. Until then, here’s the video of Ather’s CEO Tarun Mehta unveiling the vehicle for the first time at Surge Conference 2016 in Bangalore:
