Airtel is upgrading all their existing infrastructure using Vectorization. This is good news because Airtel will be able to compete with other providers who provide similar speeds, without spending significant costs. There will be no digging and changing of wires. For existing customers, it is just a quick modem change. There will be no cost for upgrading and there is a charge of Rs. 1,000 for the Modem which will be billed over 10 Months. New customers will get three months of unlimited usage(FUP of 100GB). For new customers, the modem is free!

The V-Fiber is a part of Airtel’s Project Leap to modernise their network at a large scale. Vectorization is the largest standard across Europe. Vectorization uses advanced noise elimination to increase efficiency in the existing Copper Wires and does not require digging or laying out new cables. Also, all plans come with unlimited free voice calling, both llocal and STD.

Ajai Puri, Director – Operations, Bharti Airtel said, “India is witnessing an explosive growth in data usage and a lot of in-home data consumption is happening over fixed broadband that offers consistent speeds. Airtel has always innovated ahead of the curve and offered its customers best-in-class broadband technology and experience. With ‘V-Fiber’ and our national optic fiber backbone, we are all set to offer a future ready network for tomorrow’s digitally connected homes. This solution, besides reducing our carbon footprint, offers a very quick and convenient upgrade to the customer. We are also delighted to launch our innovative myHome Rewards and unlimited free voice calling facility for our customers.”

Airtel has already launched the ‘myHome Rewards’ program for its broadband customers. Under this, customers get free additional data benefit of 5GB per month for every other Airtel service connection – postpaid mobile or digital TV (DTH) – within the home/family. Customers can avail this exciting offer for their existing as well as new Airtel postpaid mobile and digital TV connections. So, if an Airtel broadband home has two Airtel postpaid mobiles and one Airtel digital TV connection then 15 GB free additional data will be added to their broadband account every month.

V-Fiber is now officially available in Chennai and here are all the plans:

Free calling is included in all plans above 999. Airtel offers a great deal in the higher end plans. You’ll be getting a minimum of 40Mbps on all the plans and can go up to 100Mbps depending on the distance between your home and the junction box. It will be available in Delhi and Bangalore soon.
We’ve applied for our own connection to test it out and will keep you posted on how it goes. If you’re also from Chennai, you can book your connection here.
