Apple’s redesigned Health app is available in the iOS 27.3 developer beta, with expanded language support including global English. It adds daily Insights, a Longevity tab with Health Age, and movement tests using an iPhone camera. Health Age needs an Apple Watch; readiness is limited to Series 12 and Ultra 4.
Apple says the public update will be free and arrive later in 2026. It has not announced an exact release date. Global English broadens language support, but Apple still warns that features can vary by region and device.
What’s new in the redesigned Health app at a glance
The Health app has been rebuilt around Apple Intelligence. Instead of a long list of categories, it opens with summaries that change through the day and a separate tab for long-term trends.
| Feature | What it does | What you need |
|---|---|---|
| Insights tab | Summaries across heart, sleep, readiness, fitness, vitals and cycle tracking that update during the day | Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad |
| For You | Personal suggestions based on your habits, plus videos and articles from Apple’s Health clinical experts | Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad |
| Longevity tab | Long-term view across seven areas: heart health, sleep, mental wellbeing, movement health, metabolic health, hearing and nutrition | Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad; more detail with Apple Watch |
| Health Age | Compares how your metrics are tracking against your actual age | Apple Watch (required) |
| Movement evaluations | At-home tests for flexibility, strength, balance, movement mechanics and VO2 max | iPhone camera plus Apple Watch |
| Readiness | Daily 0 to 10 score with a recommendation | Apple Watch Series 12 or Ultra 4 |
| Lab panel purchase | Book a 50+ biomarker panel for $119 at Quest Diagnostics | US only |
Apple’s own footnote adds three conditions that apply across the app: select features are iPhone-only, some features may not be available in all regions or languages, and some features require you to be 18 or older.
The Insights tab: your day in one screen
The Insights tab is the new front page. Apple describes it as “timely, holistic summaries” covering heart, sleep, readiness, fitness, vitals and cycle tracking that update as new data comes in. If you wear an Apple Watch, this is where your Activity rings, heart rate, sleep score and vitals show up first, with Apple Intelligence writing a short summary on top.
Each card leads with a plain-language headline. Apple’s own screenshots show examples like “A Good Night’s Sleep” above a sleep score of 84, and “Cardio Fitness Trending Up” above a resting heart rate trend. Tap through and you get the underlying graph.

The For You section sits inside Insights. Apple’s example is practical guidance on a wind-down routine after several nights of interrupted sleep. Alongside the suggestions, the app pairs your data with short educational videos and articles featuring Apple’s Health clinical experts. In Apple’s September preview, one example was a video explaining LDL cholesterol after you add annual lab results, and another was a balance exercise plan after a movement test shows you need work on balance.
Vitals now has daytime and overnight views
Apple’s September announcement describes a daytime Vitals view alongside overnight readings. The newer watches add recovery HRV to the overnight view and let users compare it with their own baseline.
The higher-frequency HRV comes from the new Health Sensing System on Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4, which Apple says can measure HRV as often as every five minutes, 24 times more often than before. Apple splits it into two numbers:
- Recovery HRV is meant for day-to-day signals of stress and recovery.
- Overall HRV is meant for your broader health picture, including cardiovascular health.
Apple’s general guidance is that higher variability is usually linked with better recovery. Treat it as a wellness trend, not a diagnosis.
Readiness: a daily 0 to 10 score
Readiness is the headline Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 feature, and the new Health app puts it in the Insights tab as well as on the watch. Apple says it looks at your recent activity, training load, vitals and sleep score, then gives you a score from 0 to 10 with one of four recommendations: Recover, Pace Yourself, Ready or Go For It.
The score updates through the day. A hard workout or a shift in your daytime vitals can move it, and the app shows which factors are driving the number. Apple says the algorithm was built using data from the Apple Heart and Movement Study with its exercise scientists and physicians.

Apple has only announced readiness for Series 12 and Ultra 4, which have the new sensors. If you are on an older watch, don’t expect a readiness card. Our guide to Apple Watch Series 12 price and health features covers what the new hardware adds and what it costs in India.
The Longevity tab and Health Age
The Longevity tab is the part most people will notice. It looks at your data over months rather than days and fills in seven areas: heart health, sleep, mental wellbeing, movement health, metabolic health, hearing and nutrition. Apple says it can draw on iPhone, Apple Watch, AirPods, clinical health records and third-party apps and devices that write to Health.
How Health Age is calculated
Health Age turns several Apple Watch measurements into a single number that shows how your body is tracking compared with your chronological age. Apple’s sample screen shows a Health Age of -3.9 years, meaning the body is tracking younger than the person’s real age.
Apple lists the inputs as:
- VO2 max (cardio fitness)
- Resting heart rate
- Sleep
- Heart rate variability
- Optional lab values such as A1c (a long-term blood sugar marker) and LDL cholesterol
Health Age requires an Apple Watch. Without one, you still get the Longevity tab, but not the headline number.
What Health Age is not
It is an estimate built from wellness data, not a medical test or a prediction of how long you will live. A good number doesn’t replace routine check-ups, and a poor one is a prompt to look at sleep, activity and the blood markers with your doctor, not a reason to panic. Apple frames the feature around habits (“Build on Your Healthy Habits” is the message on its sample screen), which is the sensible way to read it.
At-home movement evaluations
This is the most unusual addition. Using your iPhone camera and Apple Watch together, the Health app can run physical assessments for flexibility, strength, balance, movement mechanics and VO2 max. You get real-time audio and visual feedback while you do the moves.
Apple says the evaluations use on-device vision models developed with clinical experts, and that the experience “runs entirely on device; no video is ever recorded, stored, or shared.” That matters because you are filming yourself in your living room.
The VO2 max test is the one exception to the Apple Watch requirement. Apple says it works with Apple Watch, AirPods Pro 3 or a third-party heart rate sensor, so you can try it without a watch if you have compatible earbuds or a chest strap that feeds Health.
If a test shows a weak spot, Apple says the app will suggest an exercise plan matched to your ability, along with an expert video explaining what to work on.
Lab tests: what works outside the US
You can add existing lab results to Health. Buying a panel inside the app is a separate service offered in the US.
- Importing existing results already works in the Health app, and those values (A1c and LDL, for example) can feed Health Age.
- Buying a new panel through the app is a US service: over 50 biomarkers for $119 at about 2,000 Quest Diagnostics locations.
If you live in India or anywhere outside the US, plan on adding results from your own lab reports rather than booking through Apple.
Which iPhone and Apple Watch you need
The redesigned Health app runs on Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone and iPad models with the latest software. On iPhone, Apple’s support page lists that as iPhone Duo, iPhone 16 models or later, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone Air. Apple Intelligence also needs your device and Siri language set to the same supported language, and on-device storage for its models; see how much storage Apple Intelligence needs if your phone is close to full.
| Device | What you get |
|---|---|
| Apple Intelligence iPhone, no Apple Watch | Insights, For You, Longevity tab; VO2 max test only with AirPods Pro 3 or a third-party heart rate sensor |
| Plus a compatible Apple Watch on current software | Health Age and movement evaluations, subject to feature and device eligibility |
| Plus Apple Watch Series 12 or Ultra 4 | Everything above, plus readiness and high-frequency recovery HRV |
| Older iPhone without Apple Intelligence | The redesign isn’t available; Apple only lists Apple Intelligence-enabled models |
| iPad (Apple Intelligence models) | The redesigned app, minus features Apple marks as iPhone-only |

Language and India availability
When Apple previewed the app in September, it said the redesign would start in US English with more languages to follow. The 3 November update widens that to global English, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), French, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, Turkish and Vietnamese, with more languages planned.
For India, the expanded English support is useful, but it is not a guarantee that every feature will be available at launch. Apple has not published a complete India feature list for the redesign. The Quest lab-purchase service is announced for the US.
Two practical points for Indian users:
- Your device language and Siri language need to match for Apple Intelligence to switch on. Choose the same supported language for both settings.
- Apple’s list doesn’t include German, Italian, Danish, Dutch or Swedish yet, even though Apple Intelligence supports them, so the app is still rolling out language by language.
Should you install the iOS 27.3 beta to try it?
This remains developer beta software. For a phone you rely on, waiting for the public release avoids testing unfinished software with your everyday apps and health history. Apple says features can change before release.
If you do want to try it early, know the downside before you start:
- Back up first, outside the beta. Apple says backups made on beta software might not restore to an earlier public version of iOS.
- Protect Health data separately. Check Health sync in iCloud. If you back up to a computer, use an encrypted backup to include Health and Activity data. Keep a backup from the current public release before installing a beta.
- Returning immediately to public iOS requires a reset. Turning off Beta Updates stops future betas. You can then wait for a newer public release, or erase and restore the iPhone to return immediately to the current public version.

How the new Health app compares with Oura and others
Apple is moving into ground that subscription health platforms have owned. Readiness scores, recovery HRV and long-term “age” style metrics are what rings and fitness bands have been selling for years, often behind a monthly fee. The difference is that Apple’s versions come free with the iPhone and Apple Watch you already own, and the movement tests use the iPhone camera rather than a separate device. If you are weighing a ring instead, our breakdown of Oura Ring 5 and its membership shows what that costs in India.
Where Apple is still behind is reach: the redesign needs an Apple Intelligence iPhone, Health Age needs a watch, readiness needs this year’s watch, and the lab panel is US-only.
FAQ
When will the redesigned Health app be available?
Apple says the public release will arrive as a free update later in 2026. The redesign is currently available in the iOS 27.3 developer beta; no exact public date has been announced.

No for the app itself, yes for Health Age. The VO2 max test also works with AirPods Pro 3 or a third-party heart rate sensor.
Which iPhones support the redesigned Health app?
Apple Intelligence-enabled models: iPhone Duo, iPhone 16 models or later, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone Air, on the latest software. It also comes to Apple Intelligence iPads, with some features iPhone-only.
Does my Apple Watch get the readiness score?
Readiness is announced for Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4, which have the new Health Sensing System. Apple hasn’t announced it for older models.
Does the movement test record video of me?
No. Apple says the evaluations run entirely on device and no video is ever recorded, stored or shared.
Is Health Age a medical measurement?
No. It is a wellness estimate built from Apple Watch data and optional lab values. Use it to spot trends and talk to your doctor about anything that worries you.
Is the iOS 27.3 beta safe for my health data?
Betas can have bugs, and returning immediately to an earlier public iOS version means erasing your iPhone. If your Health history matters to you, wait for the public release or make an archived backup on your current iOS version first.
