It’s almost over a year ago since Ingress was unofficially available on a repo which could be accessed through Cydia. It was port directly from the Android version and it was super buggy. Now after long wait, NianticLabs@Google has finally released it’s near-realtime augmented reality game Ingress for iOS. The game for a long time was enjoyed by all the Android users which allows them to collect energies and build portals around the city.

The backstory for Ingress is revealed by Google piece by piece over every weekly update. The game allows players of the game belong to one of two factions, “Enlightened” (represented in green) and “Resistance” (blue). The ultimate goal of the game is for one’s faction to control the largest number of “Mind Units”. The leading faction gets to control the human population in the region. There involves quite some amount of travelling to portals, hacking and collecting XM energies.

With it’s official release on iOS, Google aims to increase the user base for the game further more over the months. Ingress is widely played around major cities around the world where a large amount of people group and defend portals in real time on their phone. Ingress is truly the next generation massive multiplayer realtime augmented reality game on a mobile device. Games like Ingress will continue its development onto the next generation devices like Oculus VR and the Sony Morpheus.
