XREAL AURA is the first pair of wired XR glasses that runs Android XR, Google’s platform for headsets and glasses. The glasses weigh about 95g and have see-through lenses, so you can still see the room around you. A cable connects them to a compact compute puck that holds the battery and Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon Reality Elite chip. Orders opened in the first launch markets on 28 October, with pricing from $1,099 and shipping expected from mid-November. India is not on the launch list.
What XREAL AURA is
AURA sits between a VR headset and display-free smart glasses. Like a headset, it runs full apps and places windows around you. Like glasses, it is light and see-through. The trick is a split-compute design: the glasses carry the displays and Bose-tuned speakers, while the puck does the processing and holds the battery. The puck also works as a trackpad.

Meta is taking a similar route. Its Meta VR Glasses, previewed at Connect for spring 2027, also use a tethered puck for compute and battery. AURA is available to order in its first markets, while Meta’s glasses are still planned for spring 2027.

How Wired Mirroring works
Plug a laptop into AURA with a USB-C cable that supports video output, and its screen appears as a window you can resize and place anywhere, next to your Android XR apps. Google says no software is needed. Google Cloud calls this DisplayPort input, so the laptop needs a USB-C port that can send video. Check that specification before you buy; a USB-C charging port alone is not enough.

It could be useful when you want more screen space at a small desk or while travelling. The virtual screen is visible through the glasses, though that does not hide anything still shown on your laptop screen. A compatible handheld console can use the same connection for a larger virtual display.
Apps, Gemini and launch content
Android XR lets AURA open Google Play apps as flat windows alongside apps made for XR. You can place a browser, documents and a music app around you. YouTube and Google TV handle 180-degree, 360-degree and 3D video, and a spatial view mode converts many regular videos, photos and games into 3D.
Gemini can help arrange windows or respond to what is in view. Google also shows it highlighting objects in the room and content on screen. These are promising demos, but we have not tested how reliably they work outside them.

Google also lists games and video experiences for launch, including:
- Nevatars, a game co-directed by Andy Serkis.
- Fallout: Factions and Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars.
- Galapagos: the Last Eden and San Francisco Ballet’s Nutcracker.
- The NBA app, which can show up to three games at once with League Pass.
Google Photos gets a spatial gallery later this year that wraps your library around you. For companies, Google Cloud says AURA can be managed through Android Enterprise, with managed Google Play and zero-touch enrolment.
Where you can buy XREAL AURA
You can order AURA through XREAL in the US, Canada and South Korea from 28 October, with Japan following on 2 November. Best Buy also lists it in the US. Buyers must be 18 or older. There is no announced date or price for India.
Who should buy, and who should wait
If you work on a laptop and often wish you had more screen space while travelling, Wired Mirroring is the reason to look at AURA. At $1,099, though, it is a purchase to consider after seeing how well it handles text, comfort and battery life in independent testing.
Wait if you mainly want AI glasses for photos, calls and quick questions. Camera-and-audio glasses such as the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 cost far less and are meant to be worn like everyday glasses, while AURA is tethered to a puck by a cable. Battery life is not stated in Google’s or XREAL’s announcements, and comfort over hours is unknown until independent reviews arrive.
XREAL has not announced an India launch, and we have not tested the glasses.
FAQ
How much does XREAL AURA cost?
The 12GB + 256GB model lists at $1,279 and the 16GB + 512GB model at $1,499. Through December 2026, launch offers cut them to $1,099 and $1,299.
Is XREAL AURA available in India?
No. The launch markets are the US, Canada, South Korea and Japan. XREAL has not announced an India price or date.
Does XREAL AURA need a phone?
No. The compute puck runs Android XR and apps on its own. You can optionally connect a laptop or handheld console over USB-C with Wired Mirroring.
Can I see through XREAL AURA?
Yes. The lenses are optical see-through, so you see the real world directly. Electrochromic dimming can darken them for films, and Google says they turn transparent again when someone comes into view.
