Here you will find lots of information regarding the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto V, one that I am particularly anticipating. So enjoy reading some cool information and looking over some of the game itself. If there is anything you feel needs adding, let me know.
Story
GTA V’s single-player story is told through three player-controlled protagonists. They are Michael, Trevor and Franklin, criminals whose stories interconnect as they complete missions together. During story missions, the player can switch between the protagonists as they work together to accomplish an objective; in one such mission, Michael rappels down the side of a building, Franklin provides covering fire with a sniper rifle, and Trevor controls the getaway helicopter.
This means that outside of missions, you are free to make your choice between each three characters and even then, the three of them when not chosen will carry on their regular Los Santos business in Free-Roam.
As any of the protagonists, the player can engage in activities such as yoga, triathlons, Jet Skiing, base-jumping, tennis, golf, scuba diving or go to the gym. Each character will have unique hobbies, which can be completed with the protagonists’ friends
Trevor
And what of Michael’s other friend? Trevor is an alcoholic and drug addict who always seems just one frame ahead of his latest bender, and when the Rockstar employee playing the game switched over to him for the first time, we saw him in classic form. Sprawled out on the beach, dirtied and bloodied and wearing nothing but his briefs with the corpses of some members of The Lost motorcycle gang around him on a beach, Trevor cleans himself up and gets into the action, likely unaware of what even transpired before he blacked out. That is apparently Trevor’s character in a nutshell; he looked a great deal like this during a mission a little later, when he’s expected to be at his sharpest.
Michael
Franklin
Franklin is a repo man, an expert wheelman and a typical San Andreas criminal, but here, we see him in an unusual situation: launching himself out of a plane, where he immediately engages a parachute and floats slowly and surely towards the ground below
Each of these characters comes packing his own distinct personality and skillset – Michael is all about firearms, Franklin is a driving expert and Trevor, somehow, knows how to pilot aircraft – and they work together to complete a series of crimes known in Grand Theft Auto V as heists, which Rockstar was finally willing to expand upon.
The story is set to be a full-on, full-control play-through of complete chaos from each of these players, without forgetting the constant madness that goes on in only the beginning to get the ball rolling. Grand Theft Auto V gives you the ability to instantaneously switch between views as each different character’s perspective is given without hesitation, giving you maximum action possible.
-IGN
According to Rockstar, the world of Grand Theft Auto V is five times bigger than that of Red Dead Redemption.
The Rugged Outdoorsman
This is a massive landscape full of mountains, rivers, and–in a first for the series–wild animals. In some ways, GTAV feels like a return to the Wild West of Red Dead Redemption. The difference, of course, is that you’re not exploring this landscape by horseback. You’re cruising around in dune buggies, parachuting from a fighter jet, or just zipping down a mountain trail by bicycle. But no matter your vehicle of choice, the rural countryside of Blaine County looks fantastic. It’s easy to see that some players will simply want to get lost exploring.
The Underwater Archaeologist
Grand Theft Auto V will give you the opportunity to don a scuba suit and venture beneath the waves. What’s most interesting about this part of the game is that, depending on where you happen to be swimming, diving underwater can feel like exploring some long-forgotten civilization. You’ll see the wreckage of sunken ships, submerged oil rigs, and other scattered reminders that Los Santos is a major metropolitan area and that its waterways have probably seen a lot of activity over the years. Just watch out for the sharks.
The Good Samaritan
On occasion in the city of Los Santos, you’ll stumble upon citizens in need of a helping hand. This is similar to short side missions, venturing you with the characters and people around you to communicate with the inner city. These missions might not include the returning of a lost child or helping an old lady trying to get across the road, but things like helping individual gangbanger’s escape in an alleyway and assisting the escape of paparazzi-feasted celebrities. These short activities can reflect positively for you later on in the game, and maybe you’ll make a friend or two.
The Bad Samaritan
In most cases of Grand Theft Auto, you’re not always expected to be the good guy. Here comes the aspects of the game which allow total chaos to run free from your imagination in “ambient activities”, a short description of doing whatever the hell you like. This is not only small things like not helping people out, but making sure you do the complete opposite, like kidnapping a hitchhiker and putting them to rest with a few courses of cliff-diving madness shark-fighting activities. I mean, why the hell not?
You can always assume the worst for your guest of honor, that is, if you choose to treat them that way.
The Fastest and the Most Furious
If you recall correctly of the car customization in San Andres, well yes. They’re back. And this time, they will be hardcore time-driven customization’s that’re not to be messed with, taking GTA’s old bad-ass style and putting it to a whole new level. Of course, you can still do that if you want–and even swap out license plates if you’re so inclined. But these shops will also be used for customizing your car to high heaven, including performance upgrades as well as cosmetic options such as new spoilers, grilles, and window tints that will let you live out your inner Vin Diesel (or Paul Walker, if you’re the boring type).
The Person Who Does Yoga
Yoga. What a beautiful way to rest the chaos for a while, and of course something that is useful.
Multiplayer
Rockstar said that “refining open-world multiplayer into something really special” had been a huge focus in the development of GTA V.
Similar to Max Payne 3, GTA V will feature ‘crews’. The new Social Club functionality will connect play across multiple titles, starting with Max Payne 3 and GTA V. By playing both games’ multiplayer, crews that the player set up in one will be carried over to the other. GTA V will let players form private crews with friends, or join public crews. Players can be a member of up to five at the same time, and completing tasks as a crew will gain experience points for the player.
The regular/generic multiplayer modes will probably make a return, such as;
- Free Mode
- Deathmatch
- Team Deathmatch
- Race iGTA5
- GTA Race
Possible new online modes may be the inclusion of planes, and particularly fighter jets could lead to some exciting new online modes. Imagine a dog-fight above Los Santos by a pair of fighter jets? A game mode could include one person trying to stay alive as long as possible while flying away from everyone else in fighter jets. There’s also the possibility of jet-ski races on the water.
No single-console co-op. No splitscreen.
Information
Before play, Grand Theft Auto 5 requires an installation to both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 of 8GB. This also means that GTA V will be two disks for Xbox 360, and one for Playstation 3.
According to Eurogamer, GTA 5 will require users to install around 8GB of data on their gaming console before they can play it. Even the PS3 version, which comes on a single Blu-Ray disc, will need to be installed to the machine. The Xbox 360 version comes on two DVDs, and will needless to say have to be installed. Worse still, if you’re out of space or have an Xbox with just 4GB or 8GB of on-board storage, you may need to buy a USB drive just to play the game.
On its website Rockstar said that gamers may have to prepare to install GTA 5 to avoid disappointment.

Rockstar FAQ’s
These Questions and answers are to Rockstar regarding the development of Grand Theft Auto V. They wrote a statement in the conclusion of these A&A and the original page can be found here.
Hey all, glad everyone’s digging the A&A. We know there’s lots of other questions out there – of course we can’t answer everything and as you may know we also like to keep a lot of GTA game content secret for you to discover when you play the game. Please stay tuned though and all will be revealed in due time. Thanks!
Question: “So can you switch characters? Trevor Michael and Franklin – can you play all of those guys? And everybody has their own missions???!” “How is changing between characters going to work during missions?” “Do you have to switch characters constantly?”
Answer: Michael, Franklin and Trevor have their own separate lives with their own sets of friends and acquaintances, and even their own preferred ways of spending their free time. When you’re not on a mission, you can freely switch in real-time to any of the three characters to drop in and out of their lives letting you see what they’re up to. And because they have their own schedules, you’ll never know what they might be doing – you might drop in on Michael in the middle of a family dispute, interrupt Franklin chatting up some ladies, or Trevor on the run from the law – or whatever else these guys do in their free time… How and when you switch between characters when you’re not on a mission is completely up to you.
In addition, each of the guys has their own missions and side jobs. There will be times on a mission when you play as one character, or as combinations of two of them, and sometimes as all three, always being able to switch between the characters mid-action. Off mission, it’s up to you. You can play as one character on his own or hang out with either of the other two or both of them, or you can switch between any of them.
Question: “If I play as Trevor, can I zoom out, find out where Michael is, and then go and kill him while playing as Trevor? #GTAV”
Answer: In the open world, the characters are meant to be living their own ongoing and unpredictable personal lives, so understandably it’s not always easy to track one of them down in the vast city of Los Santos or the many towns spread about Blaine County at any given moment, but you will be able to find them. Having found them, (or simply after calling them up and arranging to meet them), you’ll certainly be able to hang out with them, annoy them should you choose, and maybe even assault them, but you won’t be able to kill them. They all have remarkable powers of recovery and good health insurance. The game is based on playing all sides of these three characters’ interwoven stories rather than having generic, interchangeable leads, so permanently killing a major character in that way wouldn’t make sense. If a player is determined enough though, they may well find a way to badly injure one of the characters and switching to that character would just put you in the hospital to continue where you left off.
Question: “Hello, I noticed that the Special Edition of GTA V includes a large ‘blueprint’ of the map. I was wondering if the Standard Edition of GTA V will include the traditional folded paper map that, as far as I can recall, has always been included with GTA games. Will a GTA V poster be included when the game is purchased?”
Answer: As in all previous Grand Theft Auto games, we’ve made a point of including a map of the world to aid players in navigating the city. In all versions of GTAV, the game disc will accompany a map with all the details players will need to navigate the world. One big change though with this game is that with a world of this size, we created a double-sided map based poster to make sure players have all the information they might need to discover and explore the world. The blueprint map in the other editions does contain plenty of additional information and secrets on it.
Question: “My name is Pedro and I have a doubt. When are you going to release the pre-order links of the Special Edition and Collector’s Edition of Grand Theft Auto V on Brazil?”
Answer: Hi Pedro, we’re working hard to make the Special Edition and Collector’s Edition available for pre-order in Brazil as soon as we can. We’re currently waiting on some customs issues to be resolved before retailers in Brazil can start accepting pre-orders. To all others who have questions about whether and where the Special Edition or Collector’s Edition is available in your particular country, we’ve been maintaining the http://www.rockstargames.com/V/preorder page to be as up to date and accurate as possible for all territories shown – if you have additional questions beyond that, feel free to hit us up at mouthoff@rockstargames.com and we’d be happy to investigate for you.
Question: “Would you be able to tell me to what extent are weapons and vehicles customizable?”
Answer: Without going into detail just yet, we can tell you that both will be very customizable – with a range of weapon upgrades as well as some very deep car customization. Stay tuned for more very soon.
Question: “Rockstar, how many discs will the Xbox and PS3 versions of the game have? I am asking because I am just conscious of how many discs I will have to install onto my Xbox 360 HDD.” –
“Hi R*, as you said GTAV will be the biggest game that Rockstar ever created, normally it should be the biggest in size too. So how you are going to solve Xbox 360 disc limit issues? I mean will GTAV have many discs (on Xbox 360 platform)…?”
“If we install GTAV on Xbox 360 do we have to insert other discs or not?”
Answer: Grand Theft Auto V is the largest and most ambitious game we have yet created, and takes full advantage of every ounce of processing power available in the current generation of consoles. In order to provide the best possible experience for such a massive and detailed world, the game will have installation requirements on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation®3 systems. For PlayStation®3, the game ships on one disc and will install content as soon as you insert the game. The install is roughly 8GB, and players will be able to play as soon as the install is complete.
Question: “Will we ever see some GTA V gameplay?”
Answer: Yes. Soon (or in September if you don’t want to see it before you play it… it’s up to you) – the first Official Gameplay Video is on its way…
Question: “Hey Rockstar, I’m curious whether you are planning on releasing GTA V on the PC…”
“You’ve probably been asked before, but is GTA V coming for next gen consoles also?” –
Answer: The only versions of the game that we have announced are for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation®3 which are set for a September 17th worldwide release. We don’t have anything to share about the possibility of a next-gen or a PC platform release at this time and we are completely focused on delivering the best possible experience for the consoles people have right now.
Question: “When will we get information on GTA V multiplayer?”
Answer: Expect to hear some first details soon – it’s called Grand Theft Auto Online and we’re very excited to unveil it for you sometime this summer.
Question: “A healthy GTAIV multiplayer game is really hard to come by nowadays. By healthy I mean players play for good clean fun. Every time I join a game it’s either modded or hacked. When I create a custom game, some abusive d*ck joins my game and ruins everyone’s fun game. I can’t just kick him out unless everyone votes. Do something about this in GTAV, Rockstar.”
Answer: Ever since Grand Theft Auto IV was released, we’ve continued to integrate newer and stronger methods of cheat detection and prevention for each of our games. While we have yet to reveal specifically what new anti-cheating measures we have planned for GTAV, rest assured that we’re focused on creating as level a playing field and as fair, fun (and healthy as you say) an experience as possible for everyone. There will always be some people who want to cheat but we are going to do our best to stop it. We have spent a lot of time and effort making an incredible Online experience and proper support is part of that package.
Question: “Hello Rockstar, I have a question: how much difference will there be between the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game?”
Answer: Players can expect the same great gameplay experience on both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms as they have both been developed in tandem. Like all of our games, trust that we’re committed to making sure Grand Theft Auto V looks and runs as great as possible regardless of whether you pick it up for PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360, and we are excited for fans on both platforms to experience Grand Theft Auto V this September. We expect any visual differences to be completely negligible.
Question: “I smell a delay…”
“Hope R* will release this game on September 17th. HOPE it will no be delayed AGAIN.” –
Answer: There’s nothing to worry about, so we aren’t quite sure what you’re smelling! GTAV will be available for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on September 17th.
In many ways, Grand Theft Auto V is simply more Grand Theft Auto, which is awesome in its own right. But it also does a lot of new stuff, too, that promises to freshen up the experience, make it deeper and give grizzled old veterans of the franchise new tools to play with. GTA V may not astound with its looks, but it’s certainly primed to in just about every other way, and if Grand Theft Auto V wasn’t on your radar as one of your most-anticipated games of 2013, it certainly should be.
