September 2026 Pixel Update: VIP Widgets and Scam Alerts

Google’s September Pixel update adds redesigned VIP widgets, expands some scam warnings and brings changes to Pixel Watch gestures. Availability varies by device, country, language and app.

VIP widgets make favourite contacts easier to reach

The updated Pixel VIP widget puts a chosen contact on your home screen, with shortcuts for calls and messages. You can move between contacts and see a notification badge when something needs your attention. It is a small change, but it saves a few steps if you regularly reach the same people.

Scam warnings are still limited by region

Google says Gboard warnings for some scam-related messages are rolling out in the United States. Scam Detection for chat-app notifications is expanding to more regions, but that does not mean every feature is available in India. Availability depends on the feature, country, language and app.

So if you do not see a warning on your Pixel, check Google’s supported-region information before troubleshooting your phone. The feature is not a replacement for checking links and sender details yourself.

Pixel Watch changes depend on the model

The update also brings gesture changes to Pixel Watch. Expanded one-handed gestures start with Pixel Watch 3, while the Raise to Talk improvements are for Pixel Watch 4. The guide to the Pixel Watch gestures and Raise to Talk changes explains the model-specific requirements.

How to check for the September Pixel update

Open Settings on your Pixel phone.
Tap System, then Software updates.
Check for an update and install it when your phone has enough battery and a stable connection.

For the watch, check for software updates in the Google Pixel Watch app. Google rolls updates out in stages, so the timing can vary by model, region and carrier.
