When we think of projectors, most consumers usually remember the ones they’ve seen in offices and schools. They have bad colours, low brightness and are definitely not good for watching movies. However, projectors have come a long way!

The last time I reviewed an Epson projector, it was TW5300 two year back. With TW650, Epson has removed some of the unnecessary features, added a few more, and made it a lot more affordable.

TW650 is a 1080P projector, with a maximum image size of 300 inches. TW5300 had a brightness of 2,200 Lumens, but on TW650 there’s a huge 50% bump to 3,100 Lumens. Thats the first thing you notice when you turn it on. It’s really bright, with a contrast ratio of 15,000:1. Also, the projector uses 3LCD technology which offers equal brightness for both whites and colours.

For connectivity, it has 1 USB-A port, 1 USB-B port, 1 Analog input, 2 HDMI ports, and built-in Wi-Fi. We tested it with both the HDMI ports and it’s easy to switch between them on both the projector itself and the included remote.

Watching movies on a large projection is absolute fun. With projectors getting better, the line between a TV and a projector is almost invisible. It is possible to get a 4K TV at the same cost, but the maximum size you could go for would be 55 inches. With TW650, you’re going to get up to 300 inches. Since most homes would not have a room that big, it is easy to fill up an entire wall with a projector.

Another upside of TW650 is the fan sound. Projectors get hot, and they are equipped with fans to deal with it. In every projector that I used in the past, these fans got really loud, making it noticeable while watching movies. With TW650, it was a breeze. There was a significant difference between this and any projector I’ve used in the past. The fan runs at 37dB in normal mode and 28dB in eco mode.

The bulb will last up to 7,500 hours before it needs a replacement. That’s a few years, even with heavy usage. When you need it, the replacement bulb comes at Rs. 4,899.

The projector also comes with a built-in speaker, but it is terrible. We cannot blame Epson for it though. It’s as bad as any TV speaker and it’s there if you really need it. But with the money you’re saving on the projector, it shouldn’t be too hard to get a good home theatre system.

The biggest feature of TW650 is its price. It is priced at Rs. 58,999, making it one of the most affordable home projectors ever. At this price point, you can easily set up a theatre room with a screen, and a good speaker system under Rs. 1 Lakh. TW650 is definitely a must-have for anyone looking to upgrade their home entertainment experience.
