ChatGPT’s new Hindi voices, Neer and Leher, are rolling out with GPT-Live-1.1. Choose one from Settings → Voice → Voice, then ask ChatGPT to reply in Hindi. Free accounts currently have limited access to Live. OpenAI’s Voice help page lists GPT-Live-1 mini for Free users, while its October 15 release notes say GPT-Live-1.1 and GPT-Live-1.1 Quip are rolling out. Which model and voice options appear can vary by account and region.
What GPT-Live-1.1 changes

GPT-Live powers the Live option in ChatGPT Voice: you can talk over ChatGPT while it speaks, interrupt naturally, and keep the reply visible as text in the same chat. OpenAI says GPT-Live-1.1 (and a lighter GPT-Live-1.1 Quip variant) brings more natural accents across languages. Live also uses a wider set of short phrases when it is searching.
Live can use web search and memory, show supported visual widgets, work with text and images in the same chat, and call plugins your account already allows. It does not support video or screen sharing. Those remain in the older Advanced Voice path for eligible subscribers.
ChatGPT’s Intelligent UI adds interactive elements to replies. The Voice update changes spoken conversations, including how naturally you can interrupt and which accents are available.
Neer and Leher: the new Hindi voices
Leher and Neer are listed as Hindi voices in OpenAI’s Voice settings. The update also adds accents for several other languages, including French, German, Japanese, Korean and Mexican Spanish.
You can ask for Hindi, English or a mix during the same conversation. Choosing a voice sets how ChatGPT sounds; it does not lock every reply to that language.
- Availability of a named voice can still differ by region and account, so Neer or Leher may appear for some signed-in users before others.
For developers building speech into an app, Sarvam Bulbul V4 Flash is an Indian-language text-to-speech API. ChatGPT Live is a conversation feature inside ChatGPT, with its usage covered by your plan.
How to try Neer or Leher

On iOS or Android
- Update the ChatGPT app.
- Open Settings → Voice.
- Select Live if you have more than one Voice option (Live, Advanced or Standard).
- Tap Voice, then choose Neer or Leher when they appear in the list.
- Return to chat, tap the Voice icon in the message bar, allow microphone access if asked, and start speaking.
OpenAI notes that changing the selected voice during an active Voice conversation starts a new voice call in the same chat.
On the web
- Go to ChatGPT on the web and sign in.
- Open Settings → Voice.
- Choose Live, then Voice, and select Neer or Leher if listed.
- Select the Voice icon in the prompt window and allow the browser microphone.
You can also set a preferred spoken language under Settings → Voice → Language. OpenAI says picking the language you speak most often can help recognition.
Which plan gets which Live model
OpenAI’s Voice help page currently lists plan usage for GPT-Live-1 and GPT-Live-1 mini. Its October 15 release notes introduce GPT-Live-1.1 and Quip, so model names may differ as the update reaches accounts. Usage is measured over a rolling 24 hours:
| Plan | Model / allowance listed in OpenAI Help |
|---|---|
| Free | Limited access to GPT-Live-1 mini |
| Go | Up to 3 hours with GPT-Live-1 mini |
| Plus | Up to 3 hours with GPT-Live-1 |
| Pro ($100/month) | Up to 15 hours with GPT-Live-1 |
| Pro ($200/month) | Unlimited GPT-Live-1, subject to abuse guardrails |
| Business Standard | 3 hours with GPT-Live-1; extra usage billed in credits |
| Business Premium | 15 hours with GPT-Live-1; extra usage billed in credits |
Workspace plans (Enterprise, Edu and others) have their own credit or minute pricing. Voice in Work needs both Voice and Work access.
Privacy and retention notes for Voice
OpenAI says audio clips from Live conversations are stored with the chat transcript and retained for 30 days. Deleting a chat also deletes associated audio within 30 days, except for security, safety or legal requirements, or clips already separated from an account after being shared for model training.
OpenAI does not train on audio or video clips unless you opt in through Data Controls (Improve the model for everyone, plus the include-audio / include-video toggles). Transcripts may still be used for model improvement when Improve the model for everyone is on, depending on plan and settings. Review these options under Settings → Data Controls.
Limitations
- Voices vary by region and account. If either voice is missing, check that the app is up to date and Live is selected. Access also depends on your account and region.
- Live is built for one-on-one talk. Background chatter can confuse it.
- Transcripts are not perfect word-for-word records.
- Video and screen sharing need Advanced Voice, not Live.
- Usage caps still apply on Free, Go, Plus and most paid tiers.
Try a familiar task in Hindi, such as practising an interview answer or drafting a message. You can ask for a slower pace or switch to English when needed. Read back names, numbers and other details in the transcript before using them.
FAQ
Do I need ChatGPT Plus to use Neer and Leher?
Not necessarily. OpenAI lists Hindi Live voices under ChatGPT Voice generally, and Free has limited access and Go allows up to three hours, according to OpenAI’s current Voice help page. The model name may vary while the 1.1 rollout reaches accounts. Whether Neer or Leher appear still depends on region and account.
How do I switch between Neer and Leher?
Open Settings → Voice → Voice, pick the voice, then start a Voice call. Changing voice mid-call starts a new voice call in the same chat.
Can ChatGPT speak Hindi if I ask in English?
Yes. You can ask it during a Live conversation to reply in Hindi, or set a preferred language under Settings → Voice → Language. Recognition and reply quality still depend on the model, network and how clearly you speak.
Is GPT-Live-1.1 the same as Advanced Voice Mode?
No. Live is the current natural back-and-forth experience powered by GPT-Live-1.1 / Quip. Advanced is the previous real-time path that still covers supported video and screen sharing for eligible subscribers.
