OnePlus’s next phone is set to launch on May 16th in London, and May 17th here in India. For those of you who do not know, OnePlus launches only one phone, replacing the previous device. OnePlus 6 is set to replace the OnePlus 5T which was launched late last year. OnePlus sets the benchmark for flagship devices, at not so flagship prices. With the device set to launch in a few days, here’s everything we know about it:

The Notch

Ever since Apple brought in a huge notch last year with the iPhone X, all Android manufacturers have been doing the same. Carl Pei confirmed that the OnePlus 6 would also come with a notch. OnePlus 5T was the first OnePlus device which removed the capacitive buttons in favor of on-screen buttons, increasing the screen-to-body ratio. With the notch in place, expect a larger screen.

Bigger Specs

OnePlus has been focusing heavily on the hardware. In fact, the invite-only reads ‘The Speed You Need.’ The phone is expected to come with Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 with an option for 6GB or 8GB RAM. Snapdragon 845 is the latest high-end processor from Qualcomm and OnePlus might be the first device to come with it. Samsung, LG, and Xiaomi are expected to launch their upcoming flagships with the same processor.

Glass Back

The device has been confirmed to have a glass back in a series of tweets by the company. Glass was used in place of Aluminium in iPhone X to support wireless charging. As adoption of this technology increases, it would be no surprise if OnePlus took a similar approach with the glass back.

In a forum post by Carl Pei, he said “in addition to retaining the horizon design, we’ve also tried to incorporate glass materials onOnePlus 6. Although OnePlus is not the first manufacturer to use glass, we are confident that we are providing users with our interpretation of a familiar material.”

Water Resistance

OnePlus sent out a tweet hinting the possibility of the OnePlus 6 being waterproof. Most flagship devices are waterproof these days, and OnePlus 6 might be the first waterproof device from the company.

Headphone Jack

This is where OnePlus did not follow other flagships. Carl Pei confirmed in an interview that people still use 3.5mm headphones and they are NOT removing it.

Camera

The company has revealed not much on the upcoming phone’s camera. However, according to a tweet now deleted by OnePlus India, the camera will have a new feature called ‘Super Slo-Mo.’ It might be similar to the 960fps videos that is available on Samsung Flagships.

Also, OnePlus was just used to shoot the cover photo of a popular Indian Fashion Magazine, Vogue and they look great!

Design

Case Manufacturer Olixar has showcased their accessories for the upcoming OnePlus 6. In doing so, they might’ve revealed the complete design of the phone. According to these images, the screen goes all the way up to the bottom of the phone and a notch on the top. On the back, there are two cameras in the center and a tiny fingerprint sensor right below.

Avengers Edition

Last year, the company released a special edition OnePlus 5T for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Now, they are set to launch another limited edition device and this time for The Avengers: Infinity War. It is clear that OnePlus has a partnership with Disney and we may see more collaboration like this in future. According to the short teaser on YouTube, The device will have a carbon fiber finish with the glass back.

Pricing and Availability

There’s no word on the price yet. However, OnePlus 6 is using premium hardware like the glass back and Snapdragon 845. We expect a price bump, with the base variant starting at Rs. 40,000. Also, OnePlus is very quick to launch their devices in the market after announcing them. Chances are, customers will be able to buy them before the end of May. These are not confirmed facts, rather just speculation. We would have to wait for the official Indian launch on May 17th for details on pricing and availability.
