Gemini 4 Argon is live for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the Gemini app and in AI Mode in Search. Free users do not get Argon. If you already pay for Pro or Ultra in India, you can pick the new frontier model today; everyone else stays on the models Google already offers on the free tier.
Google opened Argon globally on 13 October 2026. It is the company’s first major frontier release since Gemini 3, aimed at long, multi-step work in coding, science, finance, legal and cybersecurity.
Who gets Gemini 4 Argon
Google’s consumer path is clear. Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers can use Argon in the Gemini app and in AI Mode in Search starting today. Ultra subscribers also get Argon inside Google Antigravity, Google’s agent-first coding environment. Developers on the paid Gemini API tier can call Argon from AI Studio and Android Studio. Free and lower-tier plans are not on that list.
So if you were hoping for a free frontier upgrade, this is not it. Argon is a paid-tier model, and the free plan stays where it was. Rivals draw their own lines between free and paid, as with ChatGPT’s Intelligent UI and Claude’s free Docs and Slides, so it is worth comparing what each plan actually includes before upgrading.
What changes in the Gemini app
In the Gemini app, Google says Argon answers more directly, hedges less, repeats itself less and skips clichés. On longer jobs it shares progress more often so you are not staring at a silent spinner. Coding gets a sharper path on Mac: Google Antigravity’s agentic coding interface is available inside the Gemini macOS app, so you can move between chat and coding without jumping to a separate window.

The main chat window also gains a simple Chat and Task toggle. Choose Task and Gemini can keep working across Google apps and connected services even when you are away from the computer. Google says Gemini now connects to more than 40 apps, with examples such as Instacart, OpenTable, Adobe and Shopify. Availability of each connector still depends on region and account, so treat the list as a roadmap rather than a promise that every Indian account sees every partner on day one.

Separately, Google is replacing Gemini Gems with skills in November. Argon does not change that migration, but if you rely on custom Gems, plan the move on the timeline Techzei covered in Gemini Gems to Skills.
API pricing and developer access
For API users, Argon launches at an introductory price of $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, with cached input tokens at 95 percent off. After 30 November 2026 those rates rise to $4 per million input and $20 per million output for the public Argon model. The API also offers a 1M unified input-output token limit with a continuation protocol for very long jobs.
Android developers can reach Argon through Antigravity in Android Studio Canary if they have Ultra, or through the paid Gemini API in Android Studio and AI Studio. Scientists can apply for six months of Antigravity’s highest usage tier at no charge, subject to eligibility and capacity. Cybersecurity partners can apply to Google’s Fairwind Program for Argon access without the usual cyber guardrails.

What Argon is for
Google’s demos lean hard into deep work: multi-file refactors, overnight optimisation runs, multimodal document analysis and agent loops that keep going until a goal is met. Internal Google teams used early Argon builds for Chromium refactors and open-source speedups. Robotics and science stories make good screenshots, but they are not the reason most Pro subscribers will open the Gemini app on a Tuesday night.
For everyday Indian users on Pro, the useful bar is whether Argon is clearer on long coding, research and multi-step chores than the models you already had. For Chrome-side agents and Auto Browse limits, that remains a separate product story; see Techzei’s guide to Gemini in Chrome in India if that is the feature you care about.
My take
Argon is a real frontier drop, but it is not a free upgrade. If you already pay for Google AI Pro or Ultra, turn it on and see whether the less-hedged answers and Task mode earn the subscription you are already funding. If you are on Free, do not expect Argon to appear in the model picker. Wait for Google to say otherwise rather than refreshing the app every morning.
FAQ
Is Gemini 4 Argon free?
No. Google says Pro and Ultra subscribers get Argon in the Gemini app and AI Mode in Search. The paid Gemini API tier is the developer path.
Can I use Argon in India?
Google describes the rollout as global for the listed Pro, Ultra and paid API surfaces. If your India account is on Pro or Ultra, Argon should appear in the supported Gemini surfaces; Free accounts are not included.
What is the Chat and Task toggle?
In the Gemini app, Chat is the usual conversation mode. Task lets Gemini keep working across connected Google apps and services even when you are not at the computer, according to Google’s 13 October app post.
