Micromax announced its first KitKat based phone to compete with the rise of Motorola. Motorola has been successful in piercing the budget segment market ruled by local manufactures like Micromax, Karbonn and XOLO.

Micromax finally took on Motorola with the all new Unite 2 which is targeting the successful Moto E from all ends. We decided to take a closer look between these two devices and compare Motorola Moto E Vs Micromax Unite 2 A106.

Display

This is the first thing that we notice on a phone, The Moto E comes with a 4.3 inch IPS LCD display along with a qHD resolution of 960X540 pixels giving the device the pixel density of 256 ppi.

On the other hand, the Micromax Unite 2 comes with a larger 4.7 inch IPS display. Although it is bigger than the Moto E it has a lower resolution of 800X480 with a pixel density of just around 199 ppi.

The Moto E has a sharper display because of the higher pixel density, thus giving a better overall viewing experience.

Processor

The Moto E has a 1.2 GHz dual core Snapdragon 200 chipset with an Adreno 302 GPU along with 1GB of RAM, although the Unite 2 has a quad-core processor, the 1.3 Ghz MediaTek MT6582 processor (most likely) with a Mali 400 GPU along with 1GB of RAM.

Micromax is playing the numbers game by making “quad-core” a selling point over the dual core Moto E , but over and over again it has been proved that numbers are just on the paper and have not much significance in the real world scenario.

Note : A snapdragon processor has known to be of better quality than a MediaTek, given the history and track record of both the companies.

Camera

Motorola Moto E has a fixed focus 5MP rear camera without LED flash, It does not have a front facing camera which is definitely a huge blow.
Whereas Micromax Unite 2 has a 5MP rear shooter which has auto focus along with a LED flash and not to forget, a 2MP front camera for your selfies and video calling.

In this case of camera, Micromax Unite 2 easily makes it a better choice if you’re looking for a front facing camera on a budget phone.

Build Quality

Moto E like every other Motorola phone in the recent past is “made to last”, it is resistant to scratches, dust and water splashing. Especially since the Moto E is similar to the Moto G, It can be trusted to be durable. It also comes with Corning gorilla glass 3 which is mostly found only in high end phones.

As for the Micromax Unite 2 A106, the build quality may or may not be upto the mark. Given the build quality of previous phones, we won’t be surprised if it doesn’t give a good feel in the hands. Also, the durability of Micromax phones have always been questionable.

We’re waiting to get out hands on a Moto E and a Unite 2 for review, stay tuned for more.

Battery

The Moto E comes with a 1980mAH battery which Motorola claims can last an entire day with mixed usage, the Unite 2 has a 2000mAH battery which is almost same as that of the Moto E but given the bigger display in the Unite 2, it may not hold as long as Moto E. Unite 2 could have some surprises, we can’t confirm until we test the phone out in the coming weeks.

Software

While hardware is one story, the software is another. The beauty lies in the hardware and software working together seamlessly. Both the devices we have for comparison run on Android Kitkat 4.4.2 out of the box.

Motorola Moto E runs on Android that is as close to stock Android as possible. Motorola does deliver its promise of scheduled OTA updates for its phones which was seen when Moto G was released in India. Also, the sync between the hardware and software is so good that the Moto E wins over a Touchwiz loaded Samsung Galaxy S5.

None of the phones released by Micromax, including their flagships have failed to receive any meaningful updates which is definitely a sign to avoid the Micromax devices but this time around Micromax has promised OTA updates for the Unite 2. Given that it runs on a Mediatek processor, only time can tell if MicroMax can live up to its words.
As always Micromax has bundled some bloatware and we can also expect few changes from the stock android which could affect the performance.

Storage availability

Motorola Moto E and Micromax Unite 2 come with 4GB inbuilt storage and have an expandable SD card slot which supports micro SD cards up to 32GB.

Pricing

Motorola Moto E and Micromax Unite 2 are priced at exactly the same amount 6999.

So, which phone should you buy?

If you are someone who is fond of selfies and click a lot of pictures the you need to go for the Unite 2 since the Moto E lacks a LED flash and a front facing camera. Also, if you are fond a larger display but are OK to settle for something with a lower pixel density then Micromax Unite 2 would be the better choice.
If you need a better display and if you are someone who loves to tinker with your device (Rooting, Custom Roms and so on) then Moto E would be the better option because it would get a lot of attention from the aftermarket developer support on forums like XDA.

i think Moto E is a better choice though it lacks some features like in Unite 2 but screen resolution, pixel density is far better in Moto E. And it also has the corning 3 gorrila glass. So i strongly suggest Moto E. Afterall its Motorola with Google and its made to last.
