Google Play Store only had offered third party solutions for tracking a Android device with remote wipe functionality but now Google has finally decided to launch it’s own service called “Android Device Manager” which would let you ring a device and also remotely wipe it.

Android Device Manager is said to release later this month. It would be compatible with all Android devices running Android 2.2 and above. This basically caters to more than 90% of all active Android devices in the world.

Ideally, the phones logged in with your gmail account could be tracked. This amazing feature already exists on the iOS and OS X namely “Find My iPhone” and “Find My Mac”.

The two features that will be available initially are

  • Ring the lost device: This would work even if the device is in silent or vibrate mode.
  • Wipe the lost device: All data on the phone can be remotely and securely deleted.

Google also said that it would bring more features to this platform in the future.
